    Glasgow Sheriff Court, Scotland. Marie O'Gorman (known in religion as Sister Mary Aelred) and Mary McGuire (Sister Maria Bernadette) pleaded guilty to multiple counts of child abuse involving physical violence and cruel mistreatment of eight victims, aged 3-12, at Nazareth House in the Cardonald area of Glasgow between 1975 and 1981. O'Gorman struck children with harnesses and slippers, forced a child into cold baths and made her wear a nappy publicly. McGuire used similar implements; one victim suffered an eye injury from a belt buckle. Both were sentenced to two years' probation supervision and ordered to pay GBP 1,000 compensation per victim; McGuire was additionally ordered to complete 225 hours' unpaid work within 12 months.
