Sources

The Philadelphia Inquirer (2015) 'Appeals court lets stand the Schaibles' 3½-7-year prison sentences for 3rd-degree murder', 16 September. Available at: inquirer.com (Accessed: 14 July 2026).

Herbert and Catherine Schaible 'pleaded no-contest to third-degree murder' after their '8-month-old son died of pneumonia in April 2013 because they believed in healing through prayer, not medicine.' The aggravating fact: 'At the time, the Schaibles were on 10 years' probation for the 2009 death of another son, 2, who also died of pneumonia' — a second child lost to the same belief after a court had already intervened.
