Maulana Muntazir Alam was convicted of raping an 11-year-old girl inside the village mosque where he taught Urdu-Arabic classes to local children, sending the other students away before the assault. Special Judge (POCSO) Anil Kumar Kharwar sentenced him to life imprisonment, stating explicitly that this was imprisonment for the remainder of his natural life rather than a standard term, plus a fine of Rs 26,000.
