Ahmad Faisal, leader of a pesantren in West Lombok, was convicted on 5 February 2026 across two dossiers — sexual harassment and intercourse with minors — and sentenced to a combined 16 years plus fines, for abusing at least 22 santriwati between 2016 and 2023, promising victims spiritual blessings. The case broke after santriwati recognised their situation in the Malaysian film 'Bidaah'.
