Date in cited record · conviction, described in Slovak press as a landmark (prelomový) ruling
Court in the Orava region, Slovakia. In November 2025 a Slovak court convicted Peter Križian of the continued sexual abuse of a girl who was 12 years old and in sixth grade at the church school where he served as chief priest at the time. She testified that the first instance of oral sexual contact occurred when they met at his rectory. Križian was sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment. He did not contest his guilt at trial but sought leniency citing his otherwise orderly life, which the court rejected. Prosecutors and the victim's legal representative characterized the ruling as a landmark (prelomový) decision, emphasizing its significance given the defendant's position of religious authority and the victim's status as a minor under his institutional care.
Documented coercion mechanisms
- his position as the school's chief priest and the victim's teacher/authority figure at a church institution
- use of the parish rectory (fara) as the location where the abuse of the child began
