The Dieburg district court convicted a priest of the Diocese of Mainz, over eighty years old, of child sexual abuse relating to an incident in 1997, sentencing him to a fine of seventy daily rates of €100. The diocese stated it would continue its own pre-canonical investigation once the criminal judgment became final; the priest had already been barred from all priestly duties since February 2023.
