DeSoto County, Mississippi — circuit court. Lindsey Whiteside, former youth pastor at Getwell Church, pleaded guilty to one count of sexual battery and was sentenced to three years of house arrest followed by seven years of supervised release; she must register as a child sex offender for life. The crimes occurred while the victim was being mentored and counseled by Whiteside in her position of trust within the church. District Attorney Matthew Barton, who had sought a 30-year sentence, publicly called the outcome an 'abomination.'
