    Amtsgericht Bielefeld, Germany. The Bielefeld district court sentenced the former deacon to 23 months' imprisonment, suspended, plus a 6,000-euro fine, on charges of sexual abuse of persons in his care (seven counts, 2005-2011) and possession of child sexual abuse material. The defendant confessed and acknowledged the victims' civil damages claims. The Evangelical Church district of Bielefeld had itself filed the charges after allegations surfaced in 2021, and later commissioned an academic study of the case.
