Pierce indecently assaulted a 14-year-old boy while serving as parish priest at Holy Cross Church in West Cross, Swansea, in the late 1980s, later rising within the same Church in Wales structure to become Bishop of Swansea and Brecon before the offences came to light in 2023.

Pleaded guilty on 7 February 2025 to five counts of indecent assault on a male child under 16, committed 1987-1989 while a parish priest at Holy Cross Church, West Cross; sentenced 12 March 2025 to 4 years 1 month. Three further historic reports were received after sentencing and remained under investigation.
