Dunleavy was convicted across three separate trials of a total of 72 non-recent sexual-abuse offences — including indecent assault, attempted buggery and gross indecency — against 18 boys aged seven to fourteen, committed between 1964 and 1991 at four Christian Brothers schools in Belfast, Newry and Armagh where he taught and served as principal. The 28 November 2024 sentencing, covering 36 offences against nine victims, added ten further years to a sentence already imposed for the earlier trials. He died in custody in August 2025.
