Parish priest Nilton Bustamante was convicted, by an agreed sentence between the parties (making it immediately final), of sexually abusing two thirteen-year-olds (one girl, one boy) and a fifteen-year-old girl. He received four years' imprisonment with suspended execution subject to conditions, a nineteen-year prohibition on working with minors, a 200-metre approach restriction from the victims for ten years, mandatory sex-education coursework and community service, and exclusion from the locality where the offences occurred. The court found he exploited his position as parish priest and the trust placed in him by the children's parents to commit the abuse in church-owned properties.
