Priest Maurilio Villafana Morales was sentenced to life imprisonment (cadena perpetua) for repeatedly raping a girl from the age of nine inside the parish house, until she disclosed the abuse to her parents. He absconded and a reward was offered for his capture, which followed in August 2024.
