Landgericht Saarbrücken, Germany. The Saarbrücken regional court convicted a 69-year-old priest of the Diocese of Trier of sexual coercion, finding it proven that he sexually coerced a fourteen-year-old in his parish rectory in 1997. He received one year and eight months' imprisonment on probation and a €2,500 fine payable to an organization combating the sexual exploitation of girls. The bishop of Trier acknowledged in court that the diocese had not adequately pursued the allegations when they first surfaced in 2006. The diocese's own church court in Cologne subsequently found him guilty of abusing multiple minors and dismissed him from the clerical state.
Documented coercion mechanisms
- priestly office and access to the child within his own rectory
