The Ombudsman's report, based on a survey of 8,013 people and 487 victim testimonies, estimated that roughly 440,000 adults in Spain suffered sexual abuse in a religious-institutional context — about 234,000 directly by priests or religious — and recommended reparations and access to church archives.
