    McHenry County Circuit Court, Illinois, USA. Michael Penkava, 72, and Colin Scott, 88, both Jehovah's Witness elders, were found guilty on 18 March 2022 of a Class A misdemeanor for violating Illinois's Abused and Neglected Child Reporting Act by failing, as mandated reporters, to report their 2006 knowledge that a congregant (Arturo Hernandez-Pedraza, separately convicted in 2019 of assaulting a family member weekly for over 13 years) was sexually abusing a child. They were sentenced on 25 March 2022 to one year of court supervision, ten hours of community service and a $250 fine each. Penkava testified he believed he was not required to report after receiving advice in 2006 from Jehovah's Witness world headquarters in New York.
