Aliyar, a 52-year-old teacher at a madrasa in Nellikuzhi, was convicted of aggravated penetrative sexual assault of his own 11-year-old student, committed over a period beginning in 2020. Special Judge Satheesh Kumar V sentenced him to 20 years' imprisonment on each of several POCSO counts — including sexual assault by staff of an educational institution and by a person in a position of trust or authority — running concurrently, for an effective 20-year term against a cumulative 67 years across counts.
