Proceedings

  1. Date in cited record · conviction; upheld on appeal (final)

County Court (first instance); Supreme Court of Croatia (appeal). A priest of the Đakovo-Osijek Archdiocese was convicted on three counts of indecent conduct (bludničenje) and one count of offensive behaviour against a minor altar server, sentenced to a unified term of eleven months, later reduced by one month on appeal to the Supreme Court of Croatia in 2021, which confirmed the core findings. The abuse had originally been reported in 2014. He served approximately nine months. Investigative reporting later established that Archbishop Đuro Hranić, with the Vatican's knowledge, returned him to parish ministry within months of release and that Gospić-Senj Diocese Bishop Zdenko Križić then assigned him two parishes, a placement ended only after journalists' inquiries; that institutional aftermath is documented here as context, separate from the criminal conviction itself.

Appellate history

Supreme Court of Croatia confirmed the core of the county-court verdict, reducing the sentence by one month; final.
