A 14-year-old girl died on 15 July 2021 while giving birth at a Johanne Marange church shrine; the church's doctrine opposes modern medicine, so she was not taken to hospital. Her 26-year-old 'husband', Hatirarami Momberume, was arrested and charged with murder and having a sexual relationship with a minor. These charges are allegations pending adjudication.
