Storheim held both parish-priest and later archiepiscopal authority in the Orthodox Church in America; the boys were placed in his household specifically because of his clerical standing, and he used the pretext of pastoral oversight (nudity, physical 'inspection') to abuse a child in his care. Strike the clerical authority and there is no other channel that would have placed the boy, alone, in the priest's residence.

Court of Queen's Bench of Manitoba. Then-retired Archbishop Seraphim (Kenneth Storheim) was found guilty of one count of sexual assault against a boy who, with his brother, had been sent by their mother in 1985 to live and work at Storheim's church-attached residence in Winnipeg while he was a parish priest; he was acquitted of a second count involving the boy's brother. Justice Christopher Mainella found the accused not credible.

Court of Queen's Bench of Manitoba. Sentenced to eight months' imprisonment. Justice Mainella called the conduct 'a deplorable and gross breach of trust.'
