    Independent victim-protection body established at the request of the Archdiocese of Vienna. Cardinal Christoph Schönborn asked former Styrian governor Waltraud Klasnic in April 2010 to establish an independent victim-protection advocacy body. The resulting Independent Victim Protection Commission, staffed by eight volunteer experts from justice, medicine, psychology and media, adjudicates claims via a four-stage process. As of 31 May 2025 it had decided 3,492 cases, ruling in victims' favour in 3,214 (92.3%) — 29% of all incidents involved sexual abuse, the remainder physical or psychological violence — and awarded a cumulative 37.7 million euros in financial assistance and therapy funding. The Catholic Church in Austria has accepted and implemented all of the Commission's decisions.
