Vidmantas Kareckas, a priest and religion teacher, was convicted at Supreme Court level of indecent acts (tvirkinimas) against two first-grade girls he taught as their religion instructor. Despite the conviction, the Panevėžys diocese did not remove him from parish work and later assigned him as resident priest of Biržai parish — a fact reported by Lithuania's public broadcaster.
