A two-year independent commission inquiry, appointed by the Christian and Missionary Alliance and drawing on interviews and written testimony from more than 70 alumni, missionary parents and former staff, found that seven former staff members and two former students physically, sexually or psychologically abused children at Mamou Alliance Academy between 1950 and 1971, and that a significant number of children were involved.
