Mamou Alliance Academy was a Christian and Missionary Alliance boarding school for the children of its own missionaries serving across West Africa, who were required to board there while parents worked the mission field. The commission's own finding is that house parents and staff -- installed by the mission board as custodians standing in loco parentis within an explicitly Christian institution -- physically, sexually and psychologically abused a significant number of children over two decades. Independent Commission of Inquiry (appointed by the Christian and Missionary Alliance). A two-year independent commission inquiry, appointed by the Christian and Missionary Alliance and drawing on interviews and written testimony from more than 70 alumni, missionary parents and former staff, found that seven former staff members and two former students physically, sexually or psychologically abused children at Mamou Alliance Academy between 1950 and 1971, and that a significant number of children were involved.
