US District Court, Southern District of Texas. Aaron LeBaron, who assumed leadership of his father Ervil LeBaron's Church of the Lamb of God, was convicted in February 1997 of orchestrating the 1988 'four o'clock murders': the simultaneous killings of three sect defectors — Ed Marston, Mark Chynoweth and Duane Chynoweth — and an eight-year-old child who witnessed one of them, carried out by followers under the sect's 'blood atonement' hit-list doctrine. He was sentenced in June 1997 to 45 years, the maximum available.
