Netherlands — Werkgroep Ritueel Misbruik, appointed by the State Secretary of Justice. Prompted by the Oude Pekela allegations of 1987, a multidisciplinary workgroup appointed by the Dutch State Secretary of Justice concluded that there was no evidence, in the Netherlands or elsewhere, for the existence of ritual abuse beyond the testimony of alleged victims, and that the combination of elements alleged to constitute ritual abuse had not been sufficiently verified anywhere. Individual elements of the accounts were separately documented in police files, but never in the combined pattern alleged.
Documented coercion mechanisms
- the alleged combination of elements into a 'ritual abuse' pattern, which the workgroup found unverified
