Oklahoma County District Court; state and federal appellate courts. Sean Sellers was convicted in 1986 of three first-degree murders — a convenience-store clerk shot in September 1985, and his mother and stepfather in March 1986 — and sentenced to death. He stated the killings were part of satanic ritual practice, and the courts rejected diminished-capacity claims built on it through state and federal appeals. He was executed on 4 February 1999, the only person executed in the post-Furman United States for a crime committed at sixteen.
