2ª Vara Criminal de Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil (Judge Renan Alexandre Ioris). Rafael Rodrigues Pedro, 64, known as 'pai Pedro de Oxum', was convicted of violação sexual mediante fraude (sexual violation by fraud) against two women who consulted his religious centre in the east zone of Porto Alegre. The abuse occurred during rituals conducted at the centre between November 2023 and January 2024. He was sentenced to four years' imprisonment, converted to community service. One of the women established that the procedure was not a genuine religious practice by consulting others of the same religion, who confirmed it was incompatible with actual ritual practice.
Documented coercion mechanisms
- abuse performed as part of what the women were told was a ritual procedure
