Criminal circuit court, Nariño, Colombia. Oner José Castillo Villota, known as 'El Brujo de Sandoná', was convicted in January 2025 of aggravated feminicide and evidence tampering for ordering the 2023 killing of his former partner, and sentenced to thirty-one years and three months. He paid the hitman not in money but by performing a love ritual for him, and required the victim's amputated hand as ritual proof. The hitman, Danilo Galeano Loza, had been separately convicted in November 2023 and received twenty-three years.

Documented coercion mechanisms

  • a love ritual offered as the hitman's payment
