States the Molopo Regional Court sentenced Bongani Mafolela to 15 years' imprisonment (5 years for attempted rape, 10 years for rape, consecutive) on 13 August 2025. In the first incident, February 2022, Mafolela convinced a woman she had an evil spirit requiring removal, then raped her under the pretext of inserting spiritual medicine, and threatened her with harm if she disclosed the assault. While on bail, in September 2024, he met a second victim who had sought his services, drugged her drink and attempted to rape her while she resisted. The court found he 'abused cultural beliefs and his position as a traditional healer to exploit his victims.'
