A separate registered traditional surgeon, Luthando Madikizela, who had circumcised underage boys at the school without required medical certificates, was sentenced to 8 years with 4 suspended for contravening the Act. Press reporting describes the 15-year term as among the heaviest sentences imposed for a traditional-initiation offense in the province since the initiation laws were enacted in 1996.
