Baba Amarpuri, known as 'Jalebi Baba', mahant of the Baba Balak Nath temple in Tohana, was convicted on 5 January 2023 of rape, extortion and offences under the IT, NDPS and Arms Acts, for drugging and raping women who came to him as devotees seeking blessings and cures — police recovered some 120 video clips he filmed and used for blackmail. He was sentenced on 10 January 2023 to fourteen years.
