Archive classification
This is the archive's application of its published inclusion test. The cited record appears below.
The authority is the claimed capacity to remove a curse, and this judgment shows it sustaining a relationship rather than closing a single transaction. Nothing here was taken in one movement: a ring in early November, earrings at the end of it, further gold and cash over the months that followed, each asked for on the same basis. That structure works because the belief does not expire when an item is handed over — the removal is always still in progress, and a victim who has already given has a reason to give again rather than to conclude she has been robbed. The court's finding that the defendant knew from the first request that she would return nothing establishes that the continuing rite was the instrument, not an intention that failed.

Naberezhnye Chelny City Court, Republic of Tatarstan, Russia (Набережночелнинский городской суд Республики Татарстан). The defendant, anonymised in the published judgment as ФИО2, was convicted of fraud causing significant damage to a citizen under ч.2 ст.159 of the Criminal Code. The court found that between early November 2016 and 14 April 2017, under the pretext of removing a curse, she misled the victim and obtained her gold jewellery and money while knowing from the outset that she would not return the property or carry out anything she had promised. The requests were made separately over that period: a 585-standard gold signet ring worth 6,500 roubles in early November 2016, 585-standard gold earrings worth 10,000 roubles at the end of that month, and further items and sums thereafter, including amounts of 50,000, 15,000 and 13,400 roubles. The total loss was 154,900 roubles. The case was heard without a trial on the defendant's application made at the preliminary investigation. She was sentenced to one year's deprivation of liberty, suspended under ст.73 with a one-year probationary period and obligations to report periodically and not to change residence without notice. The victim's civil claim for 144,900 roubles was granted in part, the court taking into account sums already repaid; the defendant's state of health and that of her relatives were recorded in mitigation.
Documented coercion mechanisms
- a sustained relationship rather than a single encounter, the requests running from early November 2016 to April 2017
- each item asked for separately and on the same stated basis, so that no single request appeared large
- the court's finding that the defendant knew from the outset she would neither return the property nor perform anything she had promised
- items requested one at a time — a ring, then earrings, then further gold and cash — so that a victim who had already given had a reason to keep giving

The full text of the criminal judgment, read directly from the Russian judgments database sudact.ru. The court records that «в период времени с начала ноября 2016 года до 14 апреля 2017 года ФИО2... It sets out the requests individually: «в начале ноября 2016 года... The judgment records that the victim «был причинён значительный материальный ущерб на общую сумму в размере 154 900 рублей». The operative part convicts under ч.2 ст.159 and suspends the one-year term under ст.73, granting the civil claim in part «с учётом частичного возмещения».
